The War + Falling Water / First Draft

My video is The War, a short film by Shilo, and my building is Falling Water by Frank Lloyd Wright.

In my sketchbook I researched both of the projects I was given for inspiration (sorry, the photo of the Falling Water page got corrupted, but I mainly referenced the link above). I also began composing the layout for my living room.

I took a rough photo of my model today and used it to produce a digital sketch of sorts. There are some things unfinished (mainly the window, which will be between the two grey lines you see on the back wall) but so far it has the overall texture and aesthetic I am looking for. All the photoshop work will be redone and much more refined after I get a more professional photo and am sure that the model is complete.

The apple logo will be "stitched" into the backs of one of the chairs. The ad copy will be in the same area, but I am not sure of the treatment yet. I've had a lot of questions about what the chairs are, so I am thinking of also adding a stylized silhouette of someone sitting in one (just their neck & head coming above the back a little bit) to make it more clear.

The layout of the living room was influenced by three things -
  • Falling Water and the way it intertwines with its surroundings - In the print ad, the video will be on a still shot from the video, for example: an orange sky with planes flying overhead, and this will then be continued/mimicked in the scene out the window behind the tv. So the clouds and the orange sky would be showing outside as well with maybe a plane in the distance.
  • The Japanese style of the interior of Falling Water - seen in the style of the living room, with the glowing lantern-like lamps hanging behind the tv, and some of the textures and colors
  • The main theme of The War: the "chains" of society, conformity, pop culture, all the things I wrote in my sketchbook up there. For example, this is why the chairs are stiff and high-backed and why the tv is hanging by chains.

Golden Gate Bridge + Small Cubes

My inspirations were based on the Golden Gate Bridge and the video The House of Small Cubes. I really focused on the color based off of the bridge and the video. Since the Golden Gate Bridge was built during the Art Deco period I focused on that style of furniture.

Taylor Swift vs. Big Ben

Sorry I didn't post this sooner, the last 24 hours have not been the best for me. Anyway, here's my concept. The music video focuses on hand written messages on big pads of paper in markers. I thought that this could be a great way to bring the two together. Here's my mood board:

Bree Dalling project 3

Ok, for some reason my sketchbook pages aren't uploading, so yeah.

First, my color scheme. My architecture is Notre Dame, and my song is Alice by Avril Lavigne. So I wanted to keep to a forest/wonderland type theme. My color scheme sticks very close to the forest theme, but adds a touch of an old church/castle theme too.

This is what I have currently. I created a mushroom couch, and the room is surrounded by plants and mirrors. The movie is very creepy, and I wanted to stick to the creepy and random theme for decorating.

Edit: Sketchbooks are here.

I need to work on the post and obviously get a better picture (I'm embarrassed) but I have the Chris Brown "Forever" Video and the Colosseum for my influences. I am going to add more to my little stadium seating so that it reflects the columns. This was pretty fun. I want to put a gray background on it so the carpet and the wall match. Ideas for the layout of the poster would be awesome!

"Siemens PSYOP" and "Disney Concert Hall"

This is what I have as of now. I forgot about the original proportions when I made this so it is cropped kind of weird. I wanted a clean look to this giving it that iPod feel, but I wonder if I need anything else.

Oh yeah, here are my moodboards.

Father Daughter and the Space Needle

The two inspirations I have for this assignment are, the Space Needle, and the short film called Father and Daughter: short animationby Michael Dudok de Wit.

I want the furniture to reflect the Space needle and have everything feel very tall. I want to have an outdoor light source and long dark shadows. The rest of the room is a reflection of the film. These are my sketches and I will have more pics of the actual room coming soon...

Tomorrowland, Buzz, and Lady GaGa

Tomorrowland and GaGa

So my project is a Tomorrowland room, with Lady GaGa playing on the iphone. I am going to add barbie sitting next to buzz.

Design 2: Project 3 Jade Gelskey

My assigned place was the Sistine Chapel

Finding Myself- Short Film from Joshua Stocker

Here are my sketches for this project:

And here is my comp:

(Note: I noticed I misspelled quiet in the little blurb at the bottom once I uploaded. Oops :)

I wanted to keep a natural feel to my project reflecting what the videos theme is while still keeping a bit of what makes the Sistine chapel so special. The gold lighting felt very reflective of what the Sistine Chapel is about and the setup is definitely based on the architecture.
